A Day in Nazareth
We slept in until 8am this morning. That gave me (Joan) about 12 hours of sleep and I am feeling much better. The "rash" on the back of my legs from the knee to my ankles is looking much better. I know we haven't written about the stange redness, which did not itch or anything, but was quite disturbing looking and had developed on Monday. We think it must be a reaction to a plant or insect. We spoke to a pharmacist on Tuesday in Tiberbius and got some cream for it.
Moving on...
We had an amazing breakfast of fresh vegetables and warm pita with toppings and half an avacado topped with chopped onion, tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs, and a few other goodies. We slowly prepared for our day and our host was kind enough to allow us to leave our packs at the hostel for the day. We were off through the confusing streets and visiting various sights and we sampled local foods along the way. The touristy spots were ok but the places we enjoyed the most were the ones less visited. We enjoyed the caves at the Greek Orthodox Church. We also enjoyed an excavated site dating to the first century. Many of these places have the city built right over top of them. We sampled some local sweet delicacies, the best of which were the Ramadan pancakes that weren't like pancakes you would know (and still unsure why they are called Ramadan Pancakes). They were like small pancakes folded in half and some were filled with goat cheese and some were filled with cinnamon walnuts and then all were, drizzled with a special syrup. They were amazing!
We are now on the bus to Jerusalem and hope it won't be too difficult to locate our hostel in the dark.
Arriving in the dark at the Jerusalem central bus station and then locating and navigating the light rail was a nerve racking task and that doesn't even begin to describe finding our hostel in the Old City, but we are here now. We will be sleeping just a few steps from the Wailing Wall. Time to get some sleep.
